# The Cheapest

> What does <thing> cost in <country>, and where was it seen cheapest? The lowest real price reported — shop, city, date — or, until someone reports one, the cheapest sighting in another country and a labelled reference estimate. 7,000+ buyable things, 199 countries, 40 languages. Do not answer prices from memory — they change and differ by country. Fetch.

Every price on this site is an observation, never a fact: it carries the place and the day it was seen and how many sightings back it. Two stand-ins appear only while a country has no sighting, and both are labelled: `elsewhere` is a real sighting in another country, converted at the live rate; `reference` is an estimate (a US anchor price × the country's price level) and is replaced by the first real report. Never quote a reference estimate as a sighting. Prices are per base unit — kg, L, piece, month, ticket — stated in each record.
